Semax is normally supplied as a lyophilized powder, and that form is the most stable. Suppliers commonly recommend storage at -20 °C in a desiccated container protected from light, with short-term handling at room temperature limited to weighing and transfer. Powder that has absorbed moisture degrades faster, so vials should be warmed to ambient temperature before opening to prevent condensation on the contents. Hygroscopic behavior is typical of short hydrophilic peptides, and humidity control matters more than temperature alone for long-term retention.
Once dissolved, the peptide is considerably less stable than the solid. Aqueous solutions are usually prepared at neutral to slightly acidic pH, filtered, and divided into single-use aliquots before freezing. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are a common cause of avoidable loss and are best prevented by never refreezing a thawed aliquot. Adsorption to plastic and glass surfaces can lower the measured concentration of dilute solutions, particularly below roughly 0.1 mg/mL. Buffer choice, salt content, and container material all influence how much peptide remains detectable after storage.
Identity and purity of semax are established with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to ultraviolet detection, usually at 214 nanometres. Mass spectrometry, most often electrospray ionisation in positive mode, confirms the molecular mass and reveals truncated sequences. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion provide additional structural confirmation. Laboratories typically report purity as the percentage area of the main peak, a figure that does not capture isomeric or oxidised variants unless the method resolves them.
The peptide is prone to several degradation pathways. Oxidation of the methionine residue produces a sulfoxide that elutes close to the parent peak in many chromatographic systems. Hydrolysis of peptide bonds and deamidation of susceptible residues in related sequences also reduce purity over time. Lyophilised material kept dry at minus twenty degrees Celsius and shielded from light is the most stable form commonly described in laboratory practice.

Like DALI and SSAP, CE has been used to construct an all-to-all fold classification database Archived 1998-12-03 at the Wayback Machine from the known protein structures in the PDB. The RCSB PDB has recently released an updated version of CE, Mammoth, and FATCAT as part of the RCSB PDB Protein Comparison Tool. It provides a new variation of CE that can detect circular permutations in protein structures.
==== No Más Bebes (2015) ==== The film No Más Bebes tells the stories of several Chicana women sterilized at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in the 1970s. They were part of a larger group of women who underwent sterilization without a proper form of consent. Many women only learned of their sterilization months and perhaps years later. Antonia Hernandez, the plaintiff's attorney in the Madrigal v. Quilligan (1978) lawsuit, is largely responsible for relaying such information, as she spent significant amounts of time patrolling Mexican American barrios searching for Chicana women listed on hospital documents. Hernandez and Charles Nabarette learned of the coerced tubal ligations from Dr. Bernard Rosenfeld, a resident at the teaching hospital. In the documentary, he compares the medical center's practices to the sterilization of Jews in Nazi Germany at the beginning of World War II. Consequently, he was terminated for acting as a whistleblower, and nearly at risk of losing his medical license. The ten women who filed the lawsuit were U.S. citizens with varying proficiencies in the English language. The film reveals many justifications for the tubal ligations performed, including rushed, last-minute decision-making, misunderstanding of medical jargon, language barriers, and written signatures of consent. Dr. Edward James Quilligan, the main defendant on trial, claims that the hospital was simply “practicing good medicine” in one of his interviews for the documentary.
=== Protein complex immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) === Immunoprecipitation of intact protein complexes (i.e. antigen along with any proteins or ligands that are bound to it) is known as co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP). Co-IP works by selecting an antibody that targets a known protein that is believed to be a member of a larger complex of proteins. By targeting this known member with an antibody it may become possible to pull the entire protein complex out of solution and thereby identify unknown members of the complex. This works when the proteins involved in the complex bind to each other tightly, making it possible to pull multiple members of the complex out of the solution by latching onto one member with an antibody. This concept of pulling protein complexes out of solution is sometimes referred to as a "pull-down". Co-IP is a powerful technique that is used regularly by molecular biologists to analyze protein–protein interactions.

== Skene's gland == Because the Skene's gland and the male prostate act similarly by secreting prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which is an ejaculate protein produced in males, and of prostate-specific acid phosphatase, the Skene's gland is sometimes referred to as the "female prostate". Although homologous to the male prostate (developed from the same embryological tissues), various aspects of its development in relation to the male prostate are widely unknown and a matter of research.
Electroconvulsive therapy can differ in its application in three ways: electrode placement, frequency of treatments, and the electrical waveform of the stimulus. These three forms of application have significant differences in both adverse side effects and symptom remission. After treatment, drug therapy is usually continued, and some patients receive maintenance ECT. ECT appears to work in the short term via an anticonvulsant effect mostly in the frontal lobes, and longer term via neurotrophic effects primarily in the medial temporal lobe.
The mine chose to send all ore to the crusher and to concentrate on copper production due to the rising price of copper on the world market. The price of natural untreated Sleeping Beauty turquoise has risen dramatically since the mine's closing. The Kingman Mine as of 2015 still operates alongside a copper mine outside of the city. Other mines include the Blue Bird mine, Castle Dome, and Ithaca Peak, but they are mostly inactive due to the high cost of operations and federal regulations. The Phelps Dodge Lavender Pit mine at Bisbee ceased operations in 1974 and never had a turquoise contractor. All Bisbee turquoise was "lunch pail" mined. It came out of the copper ore mine in miners' lunch pails. Morenci and Turquoise Peak are either inactive or depleted. Nevada is the country's other major producer, with more than 120 mines which have yielded significant quantities of turquoise. Unlike elsewhere in the US, most Nevada mines have been worked primarily for their gem turquoise and very little has been recovered as a byproduct of other mining operations. Nevada turquoise is found as nuggets, fracture fillings and in breccias as the cement filling interstices between fragments. Because of the geology of the Nevada deposits, a majority of the material produced is hard and dense, being of sufficient quality that no treatment or enhancement is required. While nearly every county in the state has yielded some turquoise, the chief producers are in Lander and Esmeralda counties.
Snakes do not have direct neurological control of the fang sheath, it can only be retracted as the fangs enter a target and the target's skin and body provide substantial resistance to retract the sheath. For these reasons, the pressure balance hypothesis concludes that external factors, mainly the bite and physical mechanics, are responsible for the quantity of venom expelled.

=== "In the Hepatitis B Camp" === "In the Hepatitis B Camp" is a popular website for hepatitis B carriers' human rights in China. Its online forum is the world's biggest such forum with over 300,000 members. The website was first shut down by the Chinese government in November 2007. Lu Jun, the head of the rights group, managed to reopen the website by moving it to an overseas server, but the authorities in May 2008 began blocking access to the website within China, only 10 days after government officials participated in an event for World Hepatitis Day at the Great Wall of China. An official had told the head of the rights group, Lu Jun, at the time that the closure was due to the Beijing Olympic Games.
== Functions == Initial studies on carboxypeptidases focused on pancreatic carboxypeptidases A1, A2, and B in the digestion of food. Most carboxypeptidases are not, however, involved in catabolism. Instead they help to mature proteins, for example post-translational modification. They also regulate biological processes, such as the biosynthesis of neuroendocrine peptides such as insulin requires a carboxypeptidase. Carboxypeptidases also function in blood clotting, growth factor production, wound healing, reproduction, and many other processes.
== Recognition == In August 2024, Dei BioPharma was awarded "Best Pharma Company" at the African Excellence Awards hosted by MEA Markets in London. Members of the Ugandan Parliament commended the company for pioneering drug development in underrepresented areas such as oncology and vaccine production.
=== Pharmacodynamics === Methenamine has non-specific antiseptic and antibacterial properties in acidic environments via hydrolysis into formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is an aldehyde and is highly reactive and thereby bactericidal. It acts by binding to and denaturing bacterial proteins and nucleic acids. Methenamine is almost completely inactive as an antibacterial in alkaline environments, in which it is not degraded into formaldehyde. The drug's spectrum of antibacterial activity includes all urinary tract pathogens. It is specifically effective against common UTI-causing bacteria including Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, and Enterococcus faecium. However, Klebsiella aerogenes (Enterobacter aerogenes) has been said to generally be resistant to methenamine, although the mechanism and rationale supporting this resistance have not been described. In addition, certain urea-splitting bacteria, such as Proteus and Pseudomonas species, can make the urine more alkaline, thereby potentially inhibiting the antibacterial effects of methenamine. Providencia and Morganella species are also urea-splitting and might likewise be resistant to methenamine, although this topic requires more research. Methenamine is provided medically as the hippuric acid or mandelic acid salt, and the acid salt component plays a key role in helping to make the urine more acidic such that the activity of methenamine is optimized. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium acid phosphate, or ammonium chloride can also be supplemented to further acidify the urine.
Many mothers have to return to work a short time after their babies have been born. In the U.S., about 70% of mothers with children younger than three years old work full-time, with 1/3 of the mothers returning to work within 3 months and 2/3 returning within 6 months. Working outside of the home and full-time work are significantly associated with lower rates of breastfeeding and breastfeeding for a shorter duration of time. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, support for breastfeeding in the workplace includes several types of employee benefits and services, including writing corporate policies to support breastfeeding women; teaching employees about breastfeeding; providing designated private space for breastfeeding or expressing milk; allowing flextime to support milk expression during work; giving mothers options for returning to work, such as remote work, part-time jobs, and extended maternity leave; providing on-site or near-site child care; providing high-quality breast pumps; and offering professional lactation consultants. Programs to promote and assist nursing mothers have been found to help maintain breastfeeding. In the United States the CDC reports on a study that "examined the effect of corporate lactation programs on breastfeeding behavior among employed women in California [which] included prenatal classes, perinatal counseling, and lactation management after the return to work".

Each freeze-thaw cycle can degrade a fraction of the peptide and promote aggregation. Dividing a stock solution into single-use volumes removes repeated cycling as a variable. It also limits the time a thawed solution spends at room temperature.
A high main-peak percentage says little about identity, counter-ion content, or residual solvents. It also does not distinguish an isomer or a closely eluting analog. Mass confirmation and the accompanying documentation cover those gaps.
Salt form changes mass, solubility, and hygroscopicity, and acetate and trifluoroacetate salts behave differently in solution. Storage guidance still centers on -20 °C for powder and lower temperatures for solutions. The certificate should state which salt is present.
Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography is the standard method, with detection in the ultraviolet range. Peak area percentage yields a purity figure for the main component. Mass spectrometry is normally run alongside to confirm molecular identity.
