Terminology around the compound varies by source. It appears in catalogues and papers as Semax, as the heptapeptide ACTH(4-7)-Pro-Gly-Pro, and under various alphanumeric laboratory codes used by individual suppliers. These names refer to the same sequence but may imply different salt forms, purity grades, or counter-ions. Peptide databases usually list the free base mass, while product descriptions sometimes report acetate or trifluoroacetate salts with a different formula weight. Because naming conventions for research peptides are not standardised across vendors, checking the declared sequence and measured mass is more reliable than relying on a trade name alone.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. Its design combines the ACTH(4-7) core fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension, a modification intended to improve stability and prolong activity. The molecule is hydrophilic, carries no lipid chains or glycosylation, and has a theoretical mass just over 810 daltons in its free form. All seven residues are proteinogenic amino acids, so no non-natural building blocks appear in the backbone. A free N-terminal methionine and C-terminal proline define the unmodified parent peptide.
Development of the compound took place in the Soviet Union during the 1980s, largely through peptide research groups affiliated with the Shemyakin-Ovchinnikov Institute and Moscow State University. Investigators screened fragments of adrenocorticotropic hormone for activity on the central nervous system while attempting to separate cognitive effects from hormonal ones. The shortened sequence was selected because it retained behavioral activity in animal models without stimulating corticosteroid release. Early publications described the molecule as an ACTH(4-10) analog.
Published research on this peptide originates mainly from Russian laboratories, and the wider international literature is comparatively thin. Studies have used rodent models of stroke, hypoxia, and memory tasks, with a smaller number of human trials reported. Reported outcomes include changes in attention and memory measures, along with effects on neurotrophic factor expression in some experiments. Small sample sizes, inconsistent dosing protocols, and limited independent replication are widely noted limitations, so the strength of the clinical evidence remains an open question.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide whose sequence is Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. The first four residues correspond to the ACTH(4-10) fragment, while the terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension was added to improve metabolic stability. Its molecular formula is C37H51N9O10S and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 813.9 Da. The compound is classified as a peptide research chemical and as a registered pharmaceutical product in Russia, but it does not hold marketing approval in the European Union or the United States. Naming conventions vary across supplier catalogs.

The compound is registered in Russia as a pharmaceutical product, most commonly formulated as a nasal solution, and has been used in that setting since the 1990s. Outside that jurisdiction it is generally handled as a research chemical rather than an approved medicine. Regulatory status therefore differs sharply between countries, and material sold internationally may not correspond to the Russian pharmaceutical formulation. Documentation with commercial samples is typically limited to a certificate of analysis covering purity and identity, not clinical status or local legal classification.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It corresponds to the ACTH(4-7) fragment extended at the C-terminus by a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide, an addition intended to slow enzymatic breakdown. The molecular formula is C37H51N9O10S and the molecular mass is approximately 814 daltons. In the literature it is often described as an ACTH(4-10) analog, although that label reflects a naming convention as much as a precise structural relationship. The compound was developed in Russia and remains most closely associated with that research tradition.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. Its chain combines the first seven residues of corticotropin with a C-terminal proline-glycine-proline extension, a modification intended to slow enzymatic breakdown. The free peptide has a molecular mass near 813.9 daltons. It belongs to the class of ACTH-derived fragments studied for central nervous system activity rather than for adrenal steroid stimulation. This structural relationship to a natural hormone fragment is the usual starting point for describing the compound in the literature.
Development took place during the 1980s at institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where peptide fragments of ACTH were screened for cognitive and neuroprotective effects. The compound received regulatory approval in Russia as a nasal preparation, marketed for conditions such as ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attacks, and optic nerve disorders. Registration in other countries has not followed. Most published clinical reports originate from a small number of Russian research groups, and independent replication outside that setting remains limited. The regulatory status therefore differs sharply between Russia and the rest of the world.
According to Mediapart, the text was "mostly relayed by far-right activists, press outlets or personalities". Dora Moutot and Marguerite Stern later launched "femellism", a movement which according to Arrêt sur images is rejected by many feminists "for its transphobia". According to its report, the movement adheres to conspiracy theories about the "funding of the trans lobby" and remains close to ultraconservative and far-right ideology. The two activists rejected these accusations and characterized femellism as a fight "against the oppressions that women suffer because of their sex". Libération criticizes the two activists for ideological connections and common obsessions with the activists of La Manif pour tous and the far-right. Marguerite Stern later lent her support to a well-known figure of the far-right, Julien Rochedy, a masculinist and former national director of National Rally's youth group between 2012 and 2014. In September 2024, she gave a lecture at the Institut de sciences sociales économiques et politiques, a group founded by Marion Maréchal, a far-right political figure. Dora Moutot and Marguerite Stern were welcomed shortly after by LREM deputies Caroline Yadan and Aurore Bergé, which led to protests from two other LREM elected officials, Pierre Karleskind and Raphaël Gérard, the latter denouncing Carloine Yadan's "vocabulary which makes echo of the hateful speeches heard in Poland or Hungary". Shortly after this meeting Aurore Bergé tabled an amendment to remove language inclusive of trans men from a bill designed to enshrine access to abortion.
Bivalves and the gastropods in the family Juliidae have very similar shells. There are limpet-like forms in several lines of gastropods: "true" limpets, pulmonate siphonariid limpets and several lineages of pulmonate freshwater limpets. Cephalopod (like in octopuses and squid) and vertebrate eyes are both lens-camera eyes with much overall similarity, yet are very unrelated species. A closer examination reveals some differences including embryonic development, extraocular muscles, number of lens parts, and the lack of a retinal blindspot in the cephalopod eye. Swim bladders: buoyant bladders independently evolved in fishes, the tuberculate pelagic octopus, and siphonophores such as the Portuguese man o' war. Bivalves and brachiopods independently evolved paired hinged shells for protection. However, the anatomy of their soft parts is very dissimilar, which is why molluscs and brachiopods are put into different phyla. Jet propulsion in squids and in scallops: these two groups of mollusks have very different ways of squeezing water through their bodies in order to power rapid movement through a fluid. (Dragonfly larvae in the aquatic stage also use an anal jet to propel them, and jellyfish have used jet propulsion for a very long time.) Sea hares (gastropod molluscs) employ a similar means of jet propulsion, but without the sophisticated neurological machinery of cephalopods they navigate somewhat more clumsily. Tunicates (such as salps), and some jellyfish also employ jet propulsion.
The manufacture of immunoglobulins requires recombinase enzymes derived from the recombination activating genes RAG-1 and RAG-2. These enzymes are involved in the first stage of V(D)J recombination, the process by which segments of a B cell or T cell's DNA are rearranged to create a new T cell receptor or B cell receptor (and, in the B cell's case, the template for antibodies).Certain mutations of the RAG-1 or RAG-2 genes prevent V(D)J recombination, causing SCID.
==== Cardiomyopathies ==== Cardiomyopathies are diseases affecting the muscle of the heart. Some cause abnormal thickening of the heart muscle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), some cause the heart to abnormally expand and weaken (dilated cardiomyopathy), some cause the heart muscle to become stiff and unable to fully relax between contractions (restrictive cardiomyopathy) and some make the heart prone to abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy). These conditions are often genetic and can be inherited, but some such as dilated cardiomyopathy may be caused by damage from toxins such as alcohol. Some cardiomyopathies such as hypertrophic cardiomopathy are linked to a higher risk of sudden cardiac death, particularly in athletes. Many cardiomyopathies can lead to heart failure in the later stages of the disease.

=== Pronunciation === The usual pronunciations of tomato are (in North American English) and (in British English). The word's dual pronunciations were immortalized in Ira and George Gershwin's 1937 song "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" ("You like and I like / You like and I like ").
The phenomenon of the tech bro, or brogrammer, sees bro culture take root in the technology industry. The term is almost always applied pejoratively, generally in reference to a workplace culture that undervalues people who do not fit into the bro lifestyle, particularly women. Brogrammer culture can be contrasted with geek culture, which is said to value ability and passion over image. In 2013, former Microsoft game designer Daniel Cook wrote that the company was responsible for developing the bro subculture within video gaming, explaining that the "Xbox put machismo, ultra-violence and chimpboys with backwards caps in the spotlight. [...] Gamers were handed a pre-packaged group identity via the propaganda machine of a mega corporation." Cook writes that Microsoft has done this in order to distance the Xbox from its console competitors, which were portrayed as "kids platform[s]".
Dense irregular connective tissue is a form of dense connective tissue characterized by collagen fibers that appear randomly interwoven instead of forming parallel bundles as in dense regular connective tissue. Dense irregular connective tissue has less ground substance than loose connective tissue. Fibroblasts are the predominant cell type, scattered sparsely across the tissue.
Agüero insisted that she "never harmed any person, much less a baby." On 30 April, the prosecution formally requested the sentence of life imprisonment for Agüero, accusing her of deliberately injecting the babies with potassium and insulin to gain the attention of the medical staff when she attempted to resuscitate them. On 8 May, Agüero's defense lawyer gave the final statement before the court, saying that Agüero is innocent and that she was framed by "the power" (in reference to the provincial government) to blame her for the negligence of providing expired medications and concealing systematic malpractice among the hospital's medical personnel. Agüero's defense counsel later concluded his statement formally requesting the jury to acquit Agüero of all charges. In their final impact statement before the court, the mothers of the murdered babies accused Agüero and her lawyers of falsely implying that they "cried for money" (in relation to civil trials against the provincial government) and also demanded that Agüero be sentenced to life in prison. Agüero gave her final statement on 12 June, with the verdict expected for 18 June. Agüero denied the charges again, and in a tense moment in court, accused the mothers of the babies of being "scripted", prompting emotional reactions from the gallery. Agüero, in part, said:
== Variations == There are many variations possible while using the same basic concept of reducing the weight used. One way is to do a specified number of repetitions at each weight (without necessarily reaching the point of muscle failure) with an increase in the number of repetitions each time the weight is reduced. The amount or percentage of weight reduced at each step is also one aspect of the method with much variety. A wide drop set method is one in which a large percentage (usually 30% or more) of the starting weight is shed with each weight reduction. A tight drop set would remove anywhere from 10% to 25%. Drop sets may be performed either with or without rest periods between sets. Some make a distinction between the two: if the lifter does not rest then these sets are referred to as drop sets, whereas if the lifter does rest between sets then these sets are usually referred to as down sets. These definitions are somewhat arbitrary, of course, and not everyone will agree on the exact definitions.

Herpetic gingivostomatitis: A self-limiting viral infection which is caused by herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). It usually presents in young children and is very contagious. It is characterised by the presence of small oral blisters which break down and coalesce into ulcers. Herpes labialis (cold sore): Reactivation of latent herpes simplex virus-1 triggered by sunlight, stress, and hormonal changes. It is characterised by the presence of crusting blisters on the upper lip. Chickenpox: A type of viral infection which is caused by varicella zoster virus and presents in children. Numerous itchy blisters are found on the face and body. Blisters could also be found on inner cheek and palate of the mouth. Herpes zoster/shingles: Viral infection caused by reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus and found in adults. Patients can present with acute pain before or after the onset of blisters. If viral reactivation occurs in the facial nerve, it can cause Ramsay–Hunt syndrome in which patients can develop facial paralysis, blisters around the ears and on the tongue, and loss of tongue sensation. Hand, foot, and mouth disease: A highly contagious viral infection which infects young children and is caused by coxsackie virus A16. It is characterised by presence of small blisters all over the limbs and the mouth. Measles: A highly infectious condition which is caused by measles virus. It most commonly presents in young children who have not been vaccinated. It is characterised by presence of white spots (Koplik's spots) which rupture to form ulcers on the palate.
In simplifications where the change in reaction quotient is solely due to the concentration changes, Qr is referred to as the mass-action ratio, and the ratio Qr/Keq is referred to as the disequilibrium ratio.

=== Dressings === After a wound is irrigated, debrided, and, if possible, closed, it should be dressed appropriately. The goals of a wound dressing are to act as a barrier to the outside environment, facilitate wound healing, promote hemostasis, and act as a form of mechanical debridement during dressing changes. The ideal wound dressing maintains a moist environment to optimize wound healing but is also capable of absorbing excess fluid as to avoid skin maceration or bacterial growth. Several wound dressing options are available, each tailored to different kinds of wounds:
Drugs may be modified to be slowly activated by the body, or be absorbed slowly by the body. Many are dissolved in an organic oil, as the compound is lipophilic due to the addition of functional groups to provide slow action. An example of this is adding a functional group such as decanoate. The combination of an oil base and modification to decrease metabolic activation prevent medications from being fully released. This can result in length of activity of 2–4 weeks or more. The alteration of the pharmacokinetics of the drug (the absorption and activation) does not change the side effect profile of the medication; thus, atypical antipsychotics are still preferred over typical antipsychotics.

It is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide built from the ACTH(4-7) sequence plus a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. It belongs to the family of short ACTH fragments studied for nervous-system effects. Its backbone contains only standard amino acids.
It contains the 4-7 fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone extended at the C terminus. That truncation removes the region associated with steroidogenic activity. The design intent was to keep neurotrophic properties while avoiding full hormonal effects.
No natural source of the intact heptapeptide is known. It is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis. Some related ACTH fragments arise as hormone processing products, but the Pro-Gly-Pro extension is a designed addition rather than a natural sequence.
It is a synthetic peptide of seven amino acids. Its backbone corresponds to a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone extended at the carboxyl end. The material is distributed as a lyophilized solid for laboratory use.
